Firstly you will understand what a database is, how it differs from a spreadsheet, relationships and the general terminology associated with databases and their specification. 

The second stage will involve you setting up a relational database using Microsoft Access. 

At the end of the course you should have developed an understanding of the process involved in setting up a database and have first hand experience of developing and using a simple relational database.  

All students are expected to have some computer knowledge and familiarity with word processing and spreadsheets (i.e. to either use them or have used them). 

For ease and familiarity, participants are advised to bring their own laptops if available. If you require a laptop to be provided, please advise at the time of booking. If you bring your own computer or a memory stick you will be able to take home the work you undertake in the session.
